AGING IN PLACE

“PLANNING YOUR FUTURE IN YOUR HOME”

Seniors and Baby Boomers are thinking ahead, planning and remodeling now so they can stay in their homes well into the future. Smart designs for kitchens and bathrooms incorporate features that are safe and allow you to feel comfortable and won’t distract from your homes ambience and beauty or have an institutional look.

Curb-less showers, adjustable shower heads, hand held personal showers, grab bars and wall mounted sinks are just a few ways to make your bathroom more accessible. Tall elongated toilets lesson unnecessary bending and lifting.

Lever type faucets, pressure/balanced valves for the tub/shower are easy to operate and safe. Contrasting colors and materials help with deteriorating eye sight and depth perception problems.

Neutral colors are generally not a good idea as contrast is more easily seen. Non-slip flooring is a must. Maintaining a safe corridor to the shower and toilet is critical. Lower work space counters in the kitchen and bathroom, wheelchair access to work areas, and wide aisles allow better mobility and access.

The trick is integrating features seamlessly into the space to aid mobility and increase safety. Thresholds at doorways should be flat and not over ½”. Loose carpet or flooring should be repaired promptly.

Adding lighting to dark hallways and bathrooms will significantly increase visibility and safety for everyone. Upgrading your home can be done in small increments by simply adding features as you need them.

Let our designer show you how to make your home safer, more energy efficient and comfortable. We’ll carefully listen to you and provide affordable solutions for all of your remodeling challenges.
